Mare Nostrum, Quito

This July 6th, 2013, my boyfriend and I celebrated our 2 year and 6 month anniversary. We decided to go to the same place we celebrated our 1 year anniversary. Its an old and quaint place that looks like a castle, and serves incredibly tasty food. J put on his best tie and I wore my best dress, and at 8:30 we were at Mare Nostrum asking for a table.

The lighting was perfect, the chimney was just warm enough, and David was staring right at us (he has been a huge crush of mine ever since i first saw him in Florence).

We knew we wanted Lobster. The waitress recommended a plate for two with all kinds of seafood, and convinced us to have a crab soup while the main dish came out. To say the food was splendid is an understatement! We each "oohed" and "mmm-ed" after every bite we took.

Our boastful plate had shrimp, octopus, squid, prawns, and our beloved Lobster. Sadly, we couldn't finish the dish. We made sure we finished the wine and then took a walk around the place. The owner, Gonzalo Davila is a good friend of my grandfather's. He is a chef, he's been in Hollywood films (one of them directed by Steven Spielberg!), and half-ecuadorian, half-spanish. Several celebrities have visited the restaurant, including Shakira and Russell Crowe.

We headed home with happy tummies and full hearts, and decided to make our visits to Mare Nostrum a tradition.
